Key Project Information

  • This project, when built, will generate 28MWp of solar photovoltaic energy to the electricity network.
  • The solar park will produce enough clean renewable electricity to power 7,002 homes per year*, a saving of 6,202 tonnes CO2e!
  • The Planning Committee unanimously agreed with the officer’s recommendation to grant approval.

BSR Energy were seeking to provide a new solar farm in East Cambridgeshire, which will be in operation for 40 years and make a valuable contribution towards the region’s renewable energy needs.

Pegasus Group provided planning, landscape, heritage and environmental services to contribute to the successful planning permission which was provided by its Cambridge and Cirencester offices.

The site for this solar project is situated off Wicken Road (the A1123), due north-east of Wicken. It is approximately 116-acres spanning several fields which are used for arable farming. The proposal also includes biodiversity and landscape enhancement measures, such as the gapping up of existing hedgerows and provision of improved grassland, to ensure there is a minimal visual and environmental impact.

The solar park will feature the latest technology from the industry, with a primary focus to maximise the yield over the given area.

Pegasus Group coordinated the project team from the preparation stage, which included a screening request that determined the scheme was not EIA, pre-application advice, public consultation through to successful determination.
