Kate spent 20 years working in local authority planning in Essex and Cambridgeshire before moving to the private sector. This included 10 years in a small team delivering a 4,000-home new settlement, town centre and business park at Cambourne, and subsequently as development control team leader. Consequently, she has experience of a wide variety of development proposals, sound knowledge in development control matters and the processes and procedures used by local authorities. She understands the benefits of engaging with local politicians. Kate’s work on the delivery of a new settlement included reviewing and advising on housing layouts, commercial uses and community facilities, and balancing stakeholder requirements to achieve successful development on the ground.
In the private sector, Kate leads on the delivery of all sizes of residential and commercial planning applications, maintaining professional working relationships with clients, developers and consultants, in order to coordinate policy and technical inputs to the planning process. She manages project teams and community engagement events. She has advised on the planning opportunities within estate portfolios, and how to phase those opportunities to manage cash flow.
Kate advises on maximising the value of land and property through the planning process, both through new development and change of use, and is creative and tenacious. She establishes strong working relationships with Council planners to achieve positive outcomes, and has experience in addressing planning committees and undertaking appeal work.
