Pegasus Group won an appeal (hearing) for the partial demolition of the Watersplash Hotel and the erection of new extensions and blocks to provide 24 no. apartments for older people.
The application was originally refused as the Authority considered that the development would dominate the site and undermine local character. It was also considered that the development would fail to protect, maintain or enhance the special qualities of the Conservation Area.
The Appeal Inspector decided that the retention of substantial trees, and the proposed planting would soften the appearance of the 4 apartment blocks and the blocks would not create a more urbanised feel in views of the development site. The Inspector also recognised the significant need for older persons housing.
