The Veterans Garage is a charity set up to support Military Veterans across the North West by providing a stable social hub, based around the restoration of classic cars & motorcycles within a Grade II Listed former airport terminal building at Barton Airport Manchester, which was used in WW2.
Pegasus Group were brought on board to assist with the planning and Listed Building applications which had stalled due to statutory and local heritage objections.
The main challenge was to establish exactly how the buildings use had evolved over time, and how this would be incorporated and reflected in the function of the new building. To do this, Pegasus Group’s heritage team had to undertake a detailed historical investigation of the building and how its use had changed, as it had served several different functions, to determine which features were significant.
Our heritage and planning teams then undertook site visits with the client and Council Officers to understand their respective aspirations for the building, to decide which features could be retained and incorporated/ showcased within the new development. This led to the submission of amended plans and a comprehensive Heritage Statement in September 2017, with planning permission issued in November 2017.
