When considering an application for an urban extension at south east Coalville, a specific thanks was extended by a number of North West Leicestershire Planning Committee Members, including two who voted against the application, to Pegasus Group for their ‘exemplar’ approach to community engagement.
The engagement process started early. In addition to a positive on-going dialogue with the two local parish councils, workshop events were held with key stakeholders and local organisations with the specific intention of preparing a Development Brief to guide future proposals for the shape and form of the urban extension. These workshops brought different organisations and local people together to share thoughts on the future of their area, identify local issues, debate the challenges and work through various solutions.
Consultation with the wider community followed and the resulting Development Brief subsequently received formal approval from North West Leicestershire District Council.
An outline application for 2,700 dwellings followed. The proposals reflected the community led Development Brief. Only eight letters of objection were received to the planning application which was subsequently approved by the Planning Committee.
