Pegasus Group were appointed to provide town planning services to enable the introduction of a new building at Farnborough College of Technology at the Boundary Road Campus, directly adjacent to established buildings and parking areas that needed to remain in full use throughout the build process.
The new building consisted of educational facilities for staff and students, with a total floor area of 2,340 sqm to include a new entrance to the college, high quality formal teaching spaces as well as informal learning and study spaces along with a Library.
The proposed scheme resulted in the loss of open space, and a number of trees, to the front of established buildings, plus the demolition of existing buildings and development over an existing car park. As a result, the case needed to be made that the overall impact was appropriate in terms of its impact upon the street scene, and the loss / replacement of trees were justified. It also had to be shown that the additional vehicular activity as a result of the building could be properly accommodated by associated parking provision and public transport, especially given that parking spaces were lost as part of the scheme.
Following regular liaison within the design team, and subsequent discussions with Officers, the planning application was recommended favourably, and granted planning permission in March 2015.
Following construction it is now referred to as the ‘University Centre Building’, and highlighted within the College’s advertising material. Farnborough College of Technology offers A Levels, Adult Courses, Degrees and Higher Education. On site facilities at the Boundary Road campus include an Aerospace and Automotive Academy.
