We have been working on behalf of Branston Solar Extension, on an application to stand adjacent to the existing 15MW scheme proposed by Pegasus Group in 2014.
The scheme itself is set to deliver 49.9MW solar energy. The site, covering 97ha of land, will generate energy to power 15,000 homes for the 35 year permission, after which the site will be decommissioned and returned to agricultural land. Pre-application discussions and EIA screening were undertaken with the Council prior to the formal submission of the application.
The final submission included a detailed landscape and ecological masterplan accounting for the potential presence of ground nesting birds in the area. Appropriate mitigation has been proposed including the provision of skylark plots and supplementary planting to protect views in and out of the site.
We managed this process and provided Planning, Heritage, Landscape, Minerals, Design and Consultation services. Our submission set out the economic and environmental benefits of the scheme. The boundary of the site falls across to Parish Council boundaries, we therefore worked with Councillors, attending meetings and giving presentations on the scheme in order to provide a viable proposal with associated community benefits.
We worked closely with the Planning Officer and consultees to ensure that we secure Officer Recommendation of Approval with no objections from Statutory Consultees or members of the public. This not being a common occurrence for such a scheme/scale, but reflects the suitability of the site and the work done in respect of community consultation.
