The Pegasus Group heritage team were commissioned to provide initial advice regarding potential options to reconfigure an existing Co-Operative store to increase the current retail space and convert the basement area. The site incorporates two Listed Buildings (including part of a Listed Church) and a non-designated heritage asset, and is located within the Petworth Conservation Area.
Following the provision of initial advice and input into the evolving scheme, the heritage team prepared a detailed Built Heritage assessment which provided an assessment as to impacts on the historic fabric of the Listed Buildings and the character and appearance of the surrounding Conservation Area. The assessment was supplemented by a specific Planning section which detailed the public benefits of the scheme.
Once the Listed Building Consent had been submitted, Pegasus Group undertook extensive post-submission negotiations with the Local Authority, including minor revisions to the scheme, to result in a positive outcome for the client who can now look to secure the long-term viability of this sit.
