Pegasus Group was instructed to provide planning services to submit a full planning application for the installation of a 45MW solar park on a 100ha site (in the Green Wedge), located north of the A548, Weighbridge Road, opposite Deeside Industrial Estate, on behalf Atem Solar Ltd.
The solar park constitutes the installation and operation of photovoltaic (PV) panels. It is anticipated that the proposed solar park will generate up to 45,000 MWh of power annually, equating to the annual energy consumption of approximately 11,000 households and reduce Co2 emissions.
After initial resistance, Pegasus Group eventually secured officer support for the scheme and the application was narrowly voted 10 to 8 at committee.
The Welsh Government considered calling the application in but the Welsh First Minister decided against it.
With the S106 legal agreement signed Atem Solar Ltd began construction and £1.25m provided towards local skills and training schemes that target young people in the local community.
Following construction of the site, an image taken by British Astronaut Tim Peake, showing the site was published in Renewable Energy Contract Magazine.
