Lethans Wind Farm is located north of New Cumnock, East Ayrshire. It comprises 22 turbines with a range of tip heights, some of which are up to 176m to blade tip.
Due to the overall size of the scheme, it was subject to a Section 36 application, determined by the Scottish Government. Pegasus Group became involved due to the requirement to provide Further Environmental Information with regards to the assessment of night time lighting of some of the turbines. Due to Civil Aviation Authority requirements, all turbines above 150m in height must have night time lighting.
The assessment of night time lighting of turbines is a new and niche area of assessment. Pegasus Group worked with the client and Scottish Natural Heritage to develop a bespoke methodology in order to accurately assess and document the likely effects of the turbine lighting, including the production of night time photomontages. The scheme was given planning permission in March 2018.
