Pegasus Group prepared a Landscape and Visual Appraisal for this gas utilisation engines facilities in Chatterley Whitfield, near Biddulph, north of Stoke-on-Trent. The site is located on the edge of the Chatterley Whitfield Country Park and former Chatterley Whitfield Colliery. The site of the old colliery, which operated from around 1850 was closed in the late 1970s and transformed into a country park focusing on the industrial heritage of the colliery. In 1993 Chatterley Whitfield was designated as a Scheduled Monument.
The proposed Energy Hub is located on a brownfield site, which benefits from an existing screening bund and tree vegetation. However, the proximity to the scheduled monument and views from the country park required additional consideration. The site is also located within the Green Belt and the LVIA provided a commentary on the sense of openness and potential change. Pegasus Group’s landscape planning services included the assessment of landscape and visual effects and Accurate Visual Representations. The viewpoint selection focused on close range receptors associated with the country park with visualisation illustrating the scale and form of the proposal from around the Colliery.
The scheme is now operational.
