On behalf of Redrow Homes Ltd and Persimmon Homes Ltd, Pegasus Group provided comments as part of the issues and options consultation for the Swindon Local Plan Review.
Comments were made in relation to the allocated employment site forming part of the Badbury Park development area near to Commonhead (owned by Redrow and Persimmon), which was identified as having the potential to deliver up to 15ha of B1a office space.
The report looked at the following:
- A summary of the existing economic evidence on which the adopted Local Plan is based.
- A review of the latest evidence on Swindon’s economy, drawing on the Borough’s Employment Land Study and the Swindon and Wiltshire Functional Economic Market Assessment.
- The employment land requirements resulting from the latest economic evidence.
- Overall conclusions, which argued that the new evidence on the historical and future performance of Swindon’s economy indicates that employment land demand is likely to be lower than is currently expected by the adopted Local Plan. The key implication is that allocated employment sites, such as Commonhead, will likely no longer be needed to help deliver long-term growth.
