Outline planning persimmon has been granted to build two hundred new homes to the west of Halesworth in a development that will include self-build plots.

Around nine hectares of land, with access off Chediston Street, has been earmarked for the development, with the planning application submitted on behalf of Christchurch Land & Estates (Halesworth) Ltd. Planning chiefs at Waveney District Council gave the scheme the green light.

The development would see 200 homes built, with five self-build plots. Of the remaining 195 properties, 68 will be affordable homes. There will be a wide range of house types from one to four-bedroom properties including detached, semi-detached, terraced, bungalows and apartments.

Pegasus Group created the layout and landscape design for the site, which borders Roman Way on the eastern side. The site presented several constraints and is set within an undulating valley. We had to consider that the site may be visible from the wider landscape and created a design that lessened the impact through boundary hedge, tree and woodland planting. The proposals include a sustainable drainage system, play area, green space, car-free street scenes and tree planting.

Pegasus Group was also involved in the public consultation process, which saw an exhibition held in February, attended by more than 150 people.
