On 24 May 2018, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the 2016-based Subnational Population Projections (SNPP) data set for England. The data supersedes the 2014-based projections, which were published in May 2016. The data are a key component of the 2016-based household projections, which are due to be published in September 2018. The SNPP are not forecasts. They are based on demographic short term (five-year) past trends and do not attempt to predict the impact of future government or local policies, changing economic circumstances or other factors that may influence demographic behaviour. This note summarises the main points to note from the new data.
