Pegasus Group is pleased that North Dorset District Council’s Planning Committee voted unanimously to approve a mixed use scheme for Ruby TZZ Estates Ltd on land adjacent to Harwood Retail Centre, Gillingham, Dorset.
The proposals which include six units of flexible retail floorspace (A1, A3 & A5) totalling 500 sqm alongside four 2-bedroom flats was recommended for approval by officers. The brownfield site is sustainably located close to Gillingham town centre. The proposal was considered by officers to contribute and complement the existing town centre offer whilst making a small but valuable contribution to the Council’s deficient housing land supply. Importantly the proposals would bring forward a redundant piece of land, providing an attractive and enhanced frontage along Le Neubourg Way whilst increasing the permeability from the town centre through to the nearby train station.
Officers concluded that the proposals would positively contribute to all three strands of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental), and this recommendation was supported by all members of the North Dorset Planning Committee. The committee decision follows a positive and proactive approach by Pegasus Group’s planning and heritage teams to address previous concerns in relation to heritage and residential amenity.
